Jenna Van Valen
Jenna lives in Portland with her three favorite men – two pugs and another great photographer. She has found herself behind a camera since childhood, and was regularly told to “put that thing away, already!” and she’s very glad she didn’t listen. She spent most of her adult life in New Hampshire, battling the winters and mosquitoes, and working as a photographer. She loves the control a studio space gives her (weather and lighting are never an issue!) but enjoys the challenges of children and groups outside in the elements. For ten years she’s also been shooting weddings, and yet finds herself crying a little at every single event. Jenna still gets giddy over the whole big day – and has bustled more wedding dresses and supplied safety pins and tissues to more bridal parties than she can count anymore. The day she’s not excited when the bride is getting ready is the day she retires.
When not behind a camera, Jenna can be found traveling and eating her way around the country – and even then – the camera is in tow. The 103,000+ miles and 20 states her four year old car have seen are proof of her wanderlust. Whether she’s hunting a rare waterfall, sneaking up on a flower, sitting down to an amazing meal, or frolicking on a beach at sunset, she is always planning her next adventure. She has started a collection of “jump shots” with her friends at recognizable locations around the country, so next time you’re at a National Park and see a group of 30-somethings jumping (again, and again, and again) for the camera, it might just be her. She’s an excitable girl who loves a good story – and can probably tell you one in return.
